Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital (Wamenkomdigi) Nezar Patria stated that social media platform X is threatened with further sanctions if it does not pay the previously stipulated fine.
"The process and communication are still underway, so we'll wait and see. The deadline is as soon as possible, so we'll see next week," Nezar said in Jakarta on Friday.
Previously, the Ministry of Communication and Digital officially sent a third warning letter to X for not paying a fine for his negligence in handling the discovery of pornographic content.
If X does not immediately pay the fine, the social media platform will be subject to further sanctions, namely a written warning or evaluation of the Electronic System Organizer (PSE) permit.
"(If you don't pay the fine) it's already regulated in the Ministerial Regulation, namely the sanctions can range from a written warning, to a re-evaluation of the PSE permit due to non-compliance," said Nezar.
Nezar also asked X to open a representative office in Indonesia to facilitate communication between the government and the platform regarding content moderation.
