Egyptian Foreign Minister: We intend to host an international conference for the reconstruction of Gaza in November.

This came in an interview Abdel-Ati gave to the American news network CNN on Wednesday, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

As the culmination of negotiations in Egypt, the first phase of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel went into effect last Friday afternoon, in accordance with US President Donald Trump's plan.

Abdel-Ati added that Trump's plan includes successive stages, the first of which is to cease the war, allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, and prevent any annexation or displacement of Palestinians. After that, he added, the plan would move to the reconstruction phase.

In addition to the massive material destruction, Israel's two-year war of extermination in Gaza killed 67,938 Palestinians and wounded 170,169, most of them children and women, and caused a famine that claimed the lives of 463, including 157 children.

"We will do this (reconstruction) through an international conference in Cairo next month, in November," Abdel-Ati continued.

He explained that the conference will be held "with the participation of all relevant parties, including the United States, the United Nations, the World Bank, the European Union, Germany, France, the Gulf states, Japan, and others."

The United Nations estimates the cost of rebuilding Gaza at approximately $70 billion, due to the repercussions of the US-backed Israeli war of extermination.

Egypt is seeking to implement a plan adopted by the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation last March for reconstruction without displacing Palestinians. The plan, which will take five years and cost approximately $53 billion, will be implemented.

Abdel-Ati called on all members of the international community to contribute to efforts to achieve peace in the region and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

He added that this contribution would be made through providing political and financial support for efforts to provide urgent humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, through United Nations organizations and agencies.

For nearly 18 years, Israel has besieged the Gaza Strip, where some 2.4 million Palestinians live in conditions made even more catastrophic by the war of extermination.

Rafah crossing

Regarding the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt, Abdel-Ati said, "We always emphasize that it is open on the Egyptian side 24 hours a day."

Since May 2024, Israel has occupied the Palestinian side of the crossing, destroyed and burned its buildings, and prevented Palestinians from traveling, plunging them, especially the sick, into a major humanitarian crisis.

Israel announced on Thursday that preparations (the nature of which was not specified) were underway to reopen the crossing to the movement of people, in "full coordination" between Tel Aviv and Cairo, without specifying a date.

According to Hebrew media, Tel Aviv refuses to reopen the crossing because Hamas has not yet received the remaining bodies of the Israeli prisoners.

Since Monday, Hamas has released the 20 living Israeli prisoners, handed over the bodies of 10, and says it needs special equipment to search for and retrieve the remaining 18 bodies.

Abdel-Ati continued: "We are working with the Israelis to open their crossings with Gaza as well, to allow the entry of food, medical supplies, and relief aid."

He stressed that "the humanitarian situation on the ground is catastrophic, and we literally need to flood Gaza with aid, including food, medicine, and medical supplies."

Regarding security arrangements in Gaza, Abdel-Ati said that Egypt and Jordan are training 5,000 personnel to assume security and law enforcement responsibilities in Gaza alongside Palestinian police officers.
