Fernandes: Anfield fans' frustration helped United win

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes believes the frustrating atmosphere at Anfield actually helped his team secure a 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the eighth week of the Premier League on Sunday (19/10).

Fernandes said that the pressure from Liverpool's fans on the home team in the first half put the opposing players in a difficult situation.

"We knew they would try to start the game very strongly. But when the fans started to pressure them to play faster, it put them in a difficult position," Fernandes said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

He added that United deliberately slowed the tempo of the game to create space in midfield. "We wanted to slow them down, and we knew that would create a lot of space in the middle," said the Portuguese midfielder.

Fernandes also said this victory was important because it had been a long time since his club had won at Anfield.

United took an early lead through Bryan Mbeumo in the second minute, before Cody Gakpo equalized for Liverpool. Harry Maguire's 84th-minute header sealed the victory for the visitors, giving manager Ruben Amorim two consecutive league wins for the first time since arriving from Sporting CP in November last year.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have now suffered four consecutive defeats in all competitions. This is their worst run since September 1953, and Arne Slot's side risks equaling that record if they lose to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League next.
