The Swedish Football Association (SvFF) on Monday appointed former Chelsea manager Graham Potter as the new national team coach, after Jon Dahl Tomasson was sacked last week.
The Swedish Football Federation (SvFF) terminated Tomasson's contract on October 14 after his team picked up just one point from their first four 2026 World Cup qualifying matches. The Swedish national team recorded three consecutive defeats in that phase.
"The aim is to create optimal conditions for reaching the World Cup in the summer of 2026," the SvFF said in a statement, quoted from its official website on Monday.
"I feel incredibly humbled to accept this assignment, but also inspired. Sweden has fantastic players, who perform week in, week out in the best leagues in the world," said Potter.
Potter was sacked by West Ham United in September. He is now tasked by the SvFF with assembling a team featuring star players like Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres to qualify for the finals, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
