The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has officially appointed China as the host of the 2027 Women's U-19 Basketball World Cup, which will be held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, from July 17-25.
According to the FIBA website, as reported in Jakarta on Thursday, this appointment marks the first time China has been honored to host this prestigious age-group event.
"The FIBA Executive Committee appreciates the hard work and success of the Chinese Basketball Association in showcasing the sport in the best possible light," said FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis.
He explained that China continues to enhance its experience and passion for basketball to host high-quality events, so FIBA is optimistic about granting this trust.
He further explained that the appointment received full support from the Sichuan Provincial Sports Bureau and the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).
Chengdu, with a population of around 20 million and known as the "panda capital of the world," has experience hosting various international events, such as the 2025 World Games, the 2024 FIBA Women's Basketball League Asia, and the 2023 FISU Summer World University Games.
