In an interview with Turkish news channel TRT, Fidan said, "The Global Steadfastness Flotilla to break the siege on Gaza is a noble and unparalleled act," adding, "Countries must support this activity to the greatest extent possible." He noted that Turkey has been closely coordinating with several countries and exerting international pressure after the flotilla's ships set sail for Gaza.
Regarding the return of Turkish activists to Türkiye after their arrest by Israel, Fidan explained that his country communicated with Israeli security authorities through the Turkish intelligence service.
Regarding US President Donald Trump's plan for a ceasefire in Gaza, the Turkish minister noted that Trump's announcement that he would not allow the annexation of the West Bank marked a historic turning point in relations between the United States, Palestine, and Israel.
Possibility of obstructing Netanyahu
He pointed to the possibility that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could obstruct Trump's plan, saying, "There's always the possibility that Netanyahu will sabotage Trump's plan, and I believe he intends to do so. We need America's seriousness and determination."
On September 29, Trump announced a 20-point plan, including the release of Israeli prisoners in Gaza, a ceasefire, and the disarmament of Hamas.
During a press conference with the US President at the White House last Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his "support for the Trump plan," considering it "achieves Israel's goals from the war."
Tel Aviv estimates there are 48 Israeli prisoners in Gaza, 20 of whom are still alive. Meanwhile, approximately 11,100 Palestinians are languishing in its prisons, suffering from torture, starvation, and medical neglect, many of whom have been killed, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.
On Friday evening, Hamas said in a statement that it had submitted its response to the Trump plan for Gaza to mediators, announcing its agreement to the release of all Israeli prisoners, living and dead. It also reiterated its agreement to hand over the administration of the Strip to a Palestinian body of independent technocrats, based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support. However, Hamas stressed that the future of the Gaza Strip and the rights of the people will be discussed within a Palestinian framework.
During his meeting, Minister Fidan emphasized the need for the countries of the region to sign an agreement under which each state commits to the safety, sovereignty, and security of the countries of the region, stating: "We need a charter, a platform, an agreement, and an agreement for regional stability."
Historical visit
Fidan described President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to the United States in late September as historic in Turkish-American relations, particularly in terms of leadership diplomacy.
He stated that the United States had lifted some sanctions on Türkiye, while others remained in place, and that it was his duty to work to lift these sanctions.
Regarding the Syrian issue, Fidan noted that Syria is holding elections for the People's Assembly (parliament) on Sunday, stressing that the elections constitute an important step and represent the second important step after the formation of the government with regard to establishing a new regime in Syria,
The Turkish minister announced that his Syrian counterpart, Asaad al-Shaibani, will visit counterpart, Asaad al-Shaibani, will visit Türkiye next Wednesday.
