Following the prisoner exchange, UNRWA Commissioner-General calls for widespread access to aid into Gaza.

"Finally, a day of positive emotions, and a reunion of Israeli and Palestinian families (with their loved ones), shedding a ray of hope after more than two years of darkness," Lazzarini said in a post on the X platform following the implementation of Israeli and Palestinian prisoner exchanges, as part of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement between the Palestinian resistance and Israel.

In accordance with the agreement to end the war in Gaza, Hamas completed the release of the 20 living Israeli prisoners from Gaza on Monday. Tel Aviv estimates that it has the bodies of 28 other prisoners, four of whom it has received.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Prisoners' Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club said in a joint statement that Israel released 1,968 prisoners today, including 250 life-sentenced prisoners and 1,718 Gaza prisoners arrested after the war.

“It is time to build a future of peace through healing, justice, and mutual recognition,” Lazzarini added.

He continued: "It is time to allow large-scale humanitarian aid into Gaza, including that provided by UNRWA."

On Monday morning, the government media office in Gaza announced that 173 aid trucks had entered the Strip on Sunday following the ceasefire, describing the quantities as "very limited."

He explained that the aid convoy included "three trucks loaded with cooking gas and six trucks carrying diesel fuel designated for operating bakeries, generators, and hospitals."

Over the course of two years of genocide, Israel has prevented the entry of gas and fuel to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

This excludes very limited quantities that arrived during the truce period last January, and meager quantities delivered to international organizations for distribution to vital sectors, including hospitals and bakeries.

Government agencies in Gaza continue to coordinate with international relief and humanitarian organizations to organize the entry and fair distribution of aid, ensuring it reaches all Palestinian citizens, according to the government media office.

According to a ceasefire agreement document published by the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, "All humanitarian aid will be immediately permitted to enter and be freely distributed according to the agreed-upon mechanism, in line with the humanitarian resolution of January 19, 2025," referring to the humanitarian annex to the January truce agreement.

This resolution stipulates the entry of 600 trucks of humanitarian aid into Gaza daily, including fuel and cooking gas.

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had reached an agreement on the first phase of his plan, following indirect negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh with the participation of Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar, under US supervision.

Negotiations on the second phase of the agreement are scheduled to begin in a few days, with Hamas insisting on a complete end to the war of extermination, a full withdrawal of the Israeli army, and not relinquishing its "weapons of resistance" to the occupation.

With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 8, 2023, leaving 67,869 martyrs and 170,105 wounded, most of them children and women, and a famine that claimed the lives of 463 Palestinians, including 157 children.
