Wahyu Priatiawan Buntoro, Secretary General of the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (PP FPTI), stated that rock climbing is a positive activity that reflects the spirit and togetherness of Indonesian youth.
According to him, this is in line with the meaning of Youth Pledge Day which is commemorated every October 28 in Indonesia, because sports not only train physical strength, but also become a means for young people to interact socially and build trust among each other.
"In rock climbing, we are taught to trust each other. For example, when a climber has to trust or believe in the rope tie (belayer), and vice versa, the belayer is also responsible for ensuring the safety of his partner," Wahyu said when contacted from Jakarta on Tuesday.
He explained that the values of togetherness and mutual trust that develop in rock climbing reflect real social life in society.
Through these activities, young people can learn about strong cooperation, responsibility, and solidarity, both in training and tournaments.
In addition, Pristiawan emphasized the importance of rock climbing as a means of balancing life between today's digital world and physical activities.
"Rock climbing can be a way to live a healthy life amidst global challenges and the digital era, which has made face-to-face interaction increasingly rare," he said.
The Secretary General added that FPTI was enthusiastic about seeing the increase in interest among the younger generation in rock climbing in the last 10 years.
Sport is now not only a means of achievement, but also a vehicle for character building and a healthy lifestyle.
Therefore, through the spirit of Youth Pledge Day, he invited young people to continue to be active in sports and contribute through positive activities such as rock climbing, which can strengthen physical, mental, and social bonds between young people, as well as across generations in Indonesia.
