Kalin: The world has a historic opportunity to turn the Gaza ceasefire into a lasting peace.

Regarding the ceasefire in Gaza, Kalin explained: "As of this morning (Friday), we are turning an important page in our modern history. The genocidal policies that Israel has practiced for two years against the Palestinians in Gaza have ended today with this agreement."

The head of Turkish intelligence added, "I say this with great caution, because implementing the ceasefire will be our most important task from now on. A fragile agreement has been reached, and its implementation and monitoring on the ground require a high degree of sensitivity and attention."

Kalin pointed out that "in such fragile environments, violations or acts of sabotage may always occur, but as of today, we already have a ceasefire before us and in our hands."

The head of Turkish intelligence pointed out that there is a historic opportunity to stop the bloodshed in Gaza and transform the ceasefire into a lasting peace. He added that everyone bears a great responsibility to transform the ceasefire into a lasting peace.

Kalin explained that the responsibility here falls not only on the mediators and guarantors, but on the entire international community. He added that this ceasefire is not, of course, a solution to the conflict, but rather a solution will be achieved only by reviving the two-state solution and establishing the State of Palestine.

He added, "We are confident that this solution is not impossible," and that the lack of trust between the parties can be overcome through will, sincere intentions, and persistence, which will allow for the building of trust and, subsequently, peace.

Kalin emphasized that Türkiye has worked tirelessly to halt Israeli attacks and end the genocide in Gaza, and highlighted the leadership role of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who has expressed Türkiye's firm position in all international forums, including the United Nations.

On Friday morning, the Israeli government ratified the ceasefire agreement on the Gaza Strip and prisoner exchange with Palestinian factions.

On Thursday, Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had reached an agreement on the first phase of his ceasefire and prisoner exchange plan. This agreement followed four days of indirect negotiations between the two sides in Sharm el-Sheikh, with the participation of Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar, and under US supervision.

With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 8, 2023, leaving 67,211 martyrs and 169,961 wounded, most of them children and women, and causing a famine that claimed the lives of 460 Palestinians, including 154 children.
