Thanks to Ismaila Sarr’s two first-half goals, Crystal Palace, led by their coach Oliver Glasner, took control, and then Yeremi Pinault scored his first goal for Palace, sealing a 3-0 victory in the fourth round match.
Slott's decision to make 10 changes and exclude the stars from the lineup backfired at Anfield, but the Liverpool manager does not regret his choice to prioritize the upcoming matches.
"Losing a football match is always a shock, especially if that loss means you're out of a tournament," Slott said after the match.
He added, "But today's lineup (yesterday, Wednesday) was the same lineup I chose last season in roles like these."
The Dutch coach stressed: "There are many possible reasons for us losing six out of seven games, but none of them justify losing so many."
He added: "I can offer arguments or reasons, but none of them are enough to justify this level. At Liverpool, losing five out of six or six out of seven games is always too much."
Slott explained that he wanted to rest the key players and keep them fit, noting that the team's level had declined after the only win against Frankfurt in the Champions League midweek last week, before losing on Saturday to Brentford and then to Crystal Palace yesterday.
