The Court of Appeal in the French capital, Paris, has announced its approval for the extradition of Russian basketball player Daniil Kasatkin to the American authorities, according to what was reported by the RIA Novosti news agency

The court president explained that the decision still needs the approval of both the Prime Minister and the French Minister of Justice before it can take effect, noting that the administrative procedures for the extradition process have already begun.

Kasatkin had previously rejected the idea of being extradited to the United States, and revealed details of the moment of his arrest in France, explaining that he was on his way to Paris with his fiancée, Anna, before being detained during a passport check and search by the police.

The incident dates back to June 21, when the player was arrested at Paris International Airport based on an American warrant.

Washington accuses him of involvement in a cyber piracy network that used ransomware to extort money from victims and negotiate ransom payments on behalf of the group.

It is worth noting that Kasatkin lived and studied in the United States, where he enrolled at Pennsylvania State University in 2018, and played several games in the NCAA Division I basketball league.

L9In 2019 he returned to Russia, and the last club he joined was MBA-MAI in Moscow.

On July 3, the club announced the player's departure without giving reasons, simply noting that the 26-year-old, 198 cm tall player had spent four years with the team, during which he played 172 games and scored more than 1,500 points.
