Marc Marquez must be sidelined for 16 weeks

Ducati rider Marc Marquez is expected to be sidelined for up to 16 weeks after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder following a crash during the Indonesian MotoGP, and is facing a potential absence until the end of the 2025 season.

According to analysis by doctor Pedro Luis Ripoll as quoted by Marca, Marquez's injury has a good prognosis, but still requires a long recovery time.

“If there are accompanying fractures, they are usually treated during the same operation,” said Dr. Ripoll.

Marquez was thrown from his GP25 motorbike after being hit from behind by Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi on the first lap of the Indonesian GP in Mandalika, October 5.

He suffered a coracoid fracture and ligament damage to his right shoulder, which required surgery to stabilize and repair the acromioclavicular ligament.

Following the accident, the 2025 MotoGP world champion had hoped to recover without surgery. However, follow-up tests showed insufficient signs of stabilization after a week of immobilization, prompting the medical team to operate.
