In the Sabra neighborhood in southern Gaza City, six Palestinians, including three children, were killed when a drone targeted them on Al-Maghribi Street. In the Al-Rimal neighborhood in the western part of the city, a Palestinian was killed and others were injured in an Israeli airstrike near the Ansar intersection.
In Al-Shati refugee camp, two Palestinians were martyred in an Israeli airstrike targeting a landfill housing displaced persons. The army also blew up residential buildings with car bombs in several areas, most notably the Al-Sabra and Al-Nasr neighborhoods, Al-Shati refugee camp, and the Mukhabarat and Al-Karamah areas northwest of the camp, in addition to the area east of Al-Jalaa Street.
This coincided with Israeli artillery shelling targeting these areas, as well as indiscriminate gunfire from army drones and vehicles.
On August 8, the Israeli government approved a plan proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to gradually reoccupy the entire Gaza Strip, starting with Gaza City, home to approximately one million Palestinians. Three days later, the Israeli army launched a massive assault on Gaza City, destroying homes, residential buildings, civilian property, and displaced persons' tents, bombing hospitals, and carrying out incursions.
In the central Gaza Strip, two Palestinians were killed and others were injured when an Israeli drone bombed a civilian gathering in the Nuseirat refugee camp. Several Palestinians were also injured when an Israeli bombardment targeted the roof of the Abu Rakhiya family's home in the al-Hasayna area, west of the camp.
Areas east of Deir al-Balah city witnessed heavy aerial bombardment, while neighborhoods in central Khan Yunis were subjected to car bomb attacks.
In the southern Gaza Strip, the occupation forces killed three Palestinians and wounded others when they bombed a vehicle near Highway 5 in the Al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Yunis.
On Thursday, at least 52 Palestinians, including a Doctors Without Borders employee, were killed in Israeli airstrikes on various areas of the Gaza Strip, according to the Civil Defense.
Doctors Without Borders said in a statement that the attack in the center of Deir al-Balah that led to the employee's death "took place on a street where our team was waiting for the bus that would take them to the MSF field hospital in Deir al-Balah."
"All employees were wearing vests bearing the organization's logo, clearly identifying them as humanitarian medical workers," she added, noting that four others were injured in the attack, one of whom is in critical condition.
Thousands face disabling injuries
In a related development, the World Health Organization announced Thursday that approximately 42,000 people in Gaza, a quarter of whom are children, suffer from "disabling injuries" due to the war waged by Israel on the Strip, which is entering its third year.
According to the organization, these people will require continuous healthcare for years to come. The organization noted that the health infrastructure in the Gaza Strip has been severely damaged, with only 14 of 36 hospitals currently partially functioning, while rehabilitation services have shrunk to a third of their pre-war levels.
The organization emphasized the urgent need to support healthcare, protect medical facilities, ensure access to fuel and medical supplies, and implement an immediate ceasefire, emphasizing the right of Gaza's residents to health, peace, and the opportunity to recover."Lifelong rehabilitation will be essential," said Richard Peeperkorn, the organization's representative in the Palestinian territories, during a press conference, adding that the health system's capacity in Gaza has been exhausted and is unable to meet the massive urgent needs generated by the crisis.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, leaving 66,225 martyrs and 168,938 wounded, most of them children and women, and a famine that has claimed the lives of 455 Palestinians, including 151 children.
