Minister of Communication and Digital: PWI must be a comfortable and productive home for its members

Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid, when inaugurating the Central Board of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) for the 2025-2030 period, said that PWI must be able to be a comfortable and productive home for its members.

"PWI must be a comfortable and productive home for its members, so that journalistic works that are credible, independent, and full of integrity are produced," he said at an event held at the National Press Monument, Surakarta, Saturday (4/10).

As quoted in the ministry's press release confirmed on Sunday, Meutya stated that the press has a vital role in maintaining national unity amidst the rapid flow of information in the digital era.

He said that the application of journalistic principles and ethics enables the public to obtain accurate and reliable information amidst the rampant fabrication of information and the spread of hate speech.

"The challenges of digitalization and artificial intelligence make it difficult for the public to distinguish between real news and fake news. The government is urging the public to return to relying on works that adhere to journalistic ethics," he said.

Meutya emphasized the importance of maintaining the sustainability of the media industry not only as a provider of information, but also as a pillar of democracy and a glue for national unity.

In this context, PWI is expected to be able to improve the professionalism and integrity of journalists in carrying out journalistic practices.
