Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir stated that the Indonesian contingent for the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand is targeting maintaining its third-place finish, as achieved in the final medal standings for the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.
"We want to maintain our target (at the 2025 SEA Games), at least to rank third again (as at the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games)," Erick said at a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday.
He admitted that the target was not easy to achieve because at the 2025 SEA Games, many sports that were Indonesia's strengths in previous SEA Games were not being contested.
He noted that of the 87 events that contributed gold medals for Indonesia at the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games, 41 were not contested in Thailand.
Thus, the chance of winning a gold medal is currently around 46 or still far below the number that should be obtained to maintain third place.
