Netflix will experiment more with vertical video formats

Netflix Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Elizabeth Stone said the company will experiment more with vertical video formats, but does not want to compete with TikTok or short-form drama platforms.

Speaking at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 conference on Tuesday (October 28), Stone said that Netflix is testing vertical video formats as part of an effort to offer a "wider variety of content."

According to TechCrunch , Stone said that there are more ways for Netflix to leverage mobile platforms to deliver a better viewing experience.

He stated that users often search for shows such as series, films, or games on the Netflix platform, but there are times when they want to see lighter and shorter content.

Therefore, the company is testing serving vertical short video feeds on mobile devices.

"We're testing a vertical video feed on mobile devices that tries to reimagine what the mobile viewing experience is like, and adapt it to how consumers use their devices today," Stone said.

The feature, announced in early 2025 as a trial, allows users to browse short clips from Netflix original shows.

The provision of this feature is intended to attract users to watch full versions of series or films on the Netflix platform.
