New yeast resistance findings support Mars exploration plans Jakarta (ANTARA) -

Human plans to colonize Mars have received significant support from recent scientific findings demonstrating the resilience of yeast to survive in extreme conditions that mimic the Martian environment.

The latest research published in the scientific journal PNAS Nexus revealed that baker's yeast can survive shock waves with an intensity of 5.6 Mach and 100 mM sodium perchlorate salt, which replicates the conditions on Mars, as well as the combined pressure of both, reported by LADbible, Wednesday.

Baker's yeast, a microorganism known to be important in bread-making and food fermentation on Earth, demonstrated resilience to extreme pressures simulated to resemble Martian conditions.
