One million ChatGPT users discuss suicidal thoughts every week

Artificial intelligence (AI) company OpenAI has released data showing that a small percentage of ChatGPT users experience mental health issues and discuss them with the chatbot .

As reported by Tech Crunch on Tuesday, OpenAI reported that approximately 0.15 percent of ChatGPT's weekly active users engage in explicit conversations that indicate suicidal plans or intentions. With over 800 million weekly active users, that figure equates to over one million people per week.

OpenAI also noted a similar percentage of users who showed high levels of emotional attachment to ChatGPT, as well as hundreds of thousands of people who exhibited symptoms of psychosis or mania in their interactions with the AI chatbot .

However, OpenAI emphasized that such conversations are “extremely rare” and difficult to accurately measure. However, the company estimates the issue affects hundreds of thousands of users each week.
