Qatar confirms "delicate" negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh, Hamas says its delegation is removing obstacles to a Gaza agreement

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari said, "The round of negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh extended for four hours on its first day, Monday, and was a detailed effort to identify the obstacles to implementation and identify the details of implementation. The meetings will continue on Tuesday."

Al-Ansari added at a press conference in Doha: "There is a Qatari delegation present at the negotiations, and we are awaiting the outcomes in the coming days." He continued: "We are working closely in Sharm el-Sheikh to reach an agreement that extends beyond the first phase, and our focus is on arriving at a practical plan that does not allow Israel to use obstacles as an opportunity to resume its aggression."

Regarding concerns about Israel's failure to commit to a ceasefire in Gaza, Al-Ansari added, "There is a plan that calls for an end to the war with the release of prisoners, and we appreciate the concerns, but since Israel has agreed, it must commit to implementing it."

He pointed out that "the plan (presented by US President Donald Trump), which consists of 20 points, requires explanations for implementation on the ground," stressing that "the Israeli government should have halted its (military) operations in Gaza, even though Hamas agreed to the Trump plan, but reality contradicts this."

The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized his country's commitment to advancing Trump's plan and ending the Israeli war on Gaza, noting that "the original plan presented by Trump included Israeli amendments and Arab observations, some of which were accepted, but we have an American commitment to ending the war that has resulted in the largest massacre in modern times."

He stated that "it is too early to talk about the future of the Hamas office in Doha, especially since its presence was part of the Qatari mediation to resolve the Gaza crisis."

" To overcome obstacles"

For its part, Hamas confirmed on Tuesday that its delegation participating in the ceasefire negotiations in Egypt, in accordance with US President Donald Trump's plan, is seeking to "remove obstacles to achieving an agreement that meets Palestinian aspirations," warning against attempts by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to obstruct the process.

This came during a press conference held by movement leader Fawzi Barhoum, marking two years since Israel continues to perpetrate genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

He said, "The movement's delegation participating in the current negotiations in Egypt is seeking to overcome all obstacles to achieving an agreement that meets the aspirations of our people and our people in Gaza, most notably: a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire and a full Israeli withdrawal from all areas of the Strip."

He added that Hamas also looks forward to reaching an agreement that includes "the unrestricted entry of humanitarian and relief aid, ensuring the return of displaced persons to their areas of residence, and the immediate commencement of a comprehensive reconstruction process under the supervision of a Palestinian national body of technocrats, in addition to concluding a fair prisoner exchange deal."

The Hamas leader warned of Netanyahu's attempts to "obstruct and sabotage the current round of negotiations, just as he deliberately sabotaged all previousthe current round of negotiations, just as he deliberately sabotaged all previous rounds."

" Complete withdrawal"

Earlier on Tuesday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty said that the Sharm el-Sheikh negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli delegations are discussing a security mechanism to ensure Tel Aviv's complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

On Monday, indirect consultations began in Egypt regarding the implementation of the Trump plan for peace in the Middle East. Delegations from Israel and Hamas attended the talks, which discussed arrangements for a prisoner exchange, a ceasefire, and the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

Tel Aviv estimates there are 48 Israeli prisoners in Gaza, 20 of whom are still alive. Meanwhile, some 11,100 Palestinians are languishing in its prisons, suffering from torture, starvation, and medical neglect. Several of these Palestinians have died, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.

During a press conference, Abdel-Ati added that the ongoing negotiations are seeking full and unconditional access for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip through UN channels. He emphasized that the negotiations seek to establish a just peace process based on the two-state solution and full unity between the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Earlier on Tuesday, Egyptian media reported that the first day of the negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh had concluded amid what was described as a "positive" atmosphere.

On September 29, Trump announced a 20-point plan, including the release of Israeli prisoners in Gaza, a ceasefire, and the disarmament of Hamas.

With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving 67,173 martyrs and 169,780 wounded, most of them children and women, and a famine that has claimed the lives of 460 Palestinians, including 154 children.
