"If the reports of Israel's mistreatment of Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, following her detention on the Global Freedom Flotilla bound for Gaza, are true, this is very serious," Minister Stenergård said.
Speaking to Swedish news agency TT, Stenergård addressed reports that Thunberg was subjected to ill-treatment after being detained by Israel.
Commenting on these reports, Stenergård said: "I have received information about allegations of ill-treatment. If this information is true, the situation is very serious." She added: "Representatives of the ministry and the embassy are working to return our citizens, who have been detained since Friday, to Sweden as soon as possible."
The Foreign Minister stressed that they had informed Israel of the importance of respecting security and consular rights even before the Swedish activists were detained.
Meanwhile, the Hebrew-language i24News channel reported that "Israel will deport Swedish activist Greta Thunberg to Greece on Monday, after detaining her on the Global Steadfastness Flotilla, which was heading to the Gaza Strip to break the Israeli blockade."
The Hebrew channel reported that Thunberg will arrive in Greece alongside Greek citizens detained in Israel who participated in the "Global Resilience Flotilla," noting that 165 activists will be deported on the plane, which will depart from Israel to Greece on Monday.
On Saturday, Turkish activist and journalist Ersin Celik, who was part of the "Global Resilience Flotilla," revealed that the Israelis had "severely tortured" Swedish activist Greta Thunberg in front of other activists.
"The Israelis severely tortured Greta in front of our eyes. They treated her unjustly. Greta was a little girl. They forced her to crawl and kiss the Israeli flag. They did the same thing the Nazis did," Chelik said.
As of Wednesday evening, Israeli authorities seized 42 ships belonging to the Global Steadfastness Flotilla while they were sailing in international waters toward Gaza, arresting hundreds of international activists on board, and announcing the start of their deportation on Friday.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, leaving 67,139 martyrs and 169,583 wounded, most of them children and women, and a famine that has claimed the lives of 460 Palestinians, including 154 children.
