Teenagers jump into the sea during shark attack to save friend (14): 'Incredibly brave'
A 14-year-old boy is in critical condition after being attacked by a shark in Australia. His friends, who witnessed the attack, rescued him from the water. "It was incredibly brave," they said. It is perhaps thanks to their intervention that the victim is still alive.
The shark attack occurred around 6 p.m. Saturday evening, while a group of friends were fishing on Thursday Island in Queensland, Australia. A 14-year-old jumped off the pier into the water to cool off.
Immediately afterward, out of nowhere, he was bitten in the torso by a previously invisible shark. His friends, witnessing the tragedy unfold before their eyes, jumped into the water to help their friend to shore.
The 14-year-old lost significant blood and sustained life-threatening injuries to his abdomen and several organs. After receiving emergency care at a hospital on Thursday Island, he was flown to Townsville for emergency surgery. He remains there in critical condition.
The mayor of Torres Shire, where the tragedy occurred, praised the boy's friends for their intervention: "Incredibly courageous," he called them. "This incident is deeply tragic, and we are praying for the victim and h
is family."
