The government is targeting 5G connectivity in Indonesia to reach 32 percent by 2030.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital  Nezar Patria said the government is targeting 5G connection coverage in Indonesia to reach 32 percent by 2030.

"The government has set a target of connecting at least 32 percent of the country to 5G networks by 2030," Nezar said at the launch of the Empowering Indonesia Report 2025 in Central Jakarta on Monday.

He explained that currently, the availability of 5G internet connections in Indonesia is less than 10 percent, or lagging behind neighboring countries such as Malaysia, which has reached 80 percent.

Therefore, he emphasized the need for cross-stakeholder collaboration in the telecommunications industry in an effort to expand the reach of 5G connections in the country.

Meanwhile, for 4G networks, Indonesia has achieved significant progress with connectivity reaching 97 percent of residential areas in Indonesia.

However, he admitted that there is still homework to be done regarding national internet speeds, which still need to be improved.

"Internet speed still needs to be improved, it hasn't reached 100 Mbps yet, it's still around 36.7 Mbps," said Nezar.
