Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid highlighted the impact of online gambling practices (judi online or judol) which often make women victims.
Meutya explained that in the cases she encountered, women often became victims because their bank accounts were used by their husbands or other family members for online gambling activities. As a result, they were also dragged into the problems caused by these illegal practices.
"When we visited Cilincing, less than a month into my tenure as minister, we heard from women. Women who were caught using ( online gambling ) were actually only using their husbands' bank accounts. So, once again, women are the victims," said Meutya in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.
The Minister of Communication and Digital emphasized the important role of mothers as the front line in preventing their family members from falling into online gambling practices.
"If the minister says to stay away from online gambling, it's not certain that the children will obey, let alone the husband. But if the mother is at home every day, waking up in the morning and reminding her husband before bed, it might be more effective," he said.
