Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid is targeting the completion of the AI ethics roadmap in Indonesia, the result of discussions and collaboration across ministries and institutions, to be launched in 2026, with a focus on ethical guidelines.
"So, the regulations we've created, which have now been submitted and, God willing, will be signed soon, first address ethics and security issues," Meutya said in her remarks at the Kumparan AI for Indonesia event in Jakarta on Thursday.
He said the AI roadmap is crucial for regulating the use of AI across all sectors within ministries and institutions. Therefore, the regulations formulated jointly by approximately 55 ministries/institutions are agreed upon per sector, and the ministries will issue AI-related regulations to support the productivity of their respective sectors.
Meutya said that the main aspect, besides ethics, is talent, which is crucial for effectively utilizing AI by creating digital talent, and using AI based on research and innovation, as well as use cases, or leveraging technology for real-world solutions.
The AI Roadmap also focuses on 10 priority areas in accordance with the President's mandate, namely food security, health, education, economics and finance, bureaucratic reform, political, legal and security affairs, energy, environmental resources, change, transportation, logistics, infrastructure, and the creative economy.
