The scientific journal Nutrients reported that a group of researchers from the University of Idaho in the United States conducted a study to identify spices that help slow the aging process.

According to the study, adding small amounts of black pepper, cinnamon, and cloves to your daily diet improves cardiovascular health and provides protection at the cellular level.

The results of the scientific study showed that the positive effects of these spices are linked to their high concentration of natural compounds—polyphenols. These substances have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. They help reduce oxidative stress in the body, slow cell aging, and normalize metabolic processes.

The study included 212 adult volunteers who provided detailed information on their consumption frequency of 27 spices and herbs. The data was compared to the International Food Composition Database. The analysis showed that participants consumed an average of approximately 680 milligrams of polyphenols per month from spices alone, representing up to 12% of their total intake of these beneficial substances.

Scientists confirm that black pepper, cinnamon, and cloves are the main sources of polyphenols among all the spices studied. Experts point out that spices are often overlooked when assessing the nutritional value of a diet, which can lead to a significant underestimation of the amount of antioxidants consumed.

The use of natural spices allows you to increase the nutritional value of food without increasing the calorie content or significantly changing the usual menu.
