Türkiye welcomes the International Court of Justice's opinion on Israel's obligations and affirms its continued support for Palestine.

The ministry said in a statement that the court's opinion on Israel's responsibilities clearly demonstrated the legal violations committed by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories, in violation of its international obligations.

The statement stressed that Israel's ongoing practices against the Palestinian people, its refusal to comply with its obligations under international law, its prevention of the delivery of humanitarian aid, and its targeting of UN facilities and personnel, constitute a "blatant challenge to the rule of international law."

He added that the legal opinion also emphasized that the Israeli government's attempts to weaken the mandate, activities, and presence of the United Nations and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in the occupied territories are "illegal."

The statement explained that Turkey participated in the court proceedings by submitting written and oral submissions in support of the legal process, stressing that it will continue to stand by the Palestinian people in their "just struggle" and will "firmly support the implementation of international law and efforts to achieve justice."

Earlier on Wednesday, the International Court of Justice ruled that Palestinians in the Gaza Strip "have not received adequate supplies" of humanitarian aid, and ordered Israel to allow and facilitate humanitarian access to the Strip and to stop using starvation as a weapon of war.

The court stated in its opinion that Israel, as an occupying power, must "facilitate relief efforts for civilians and allow unimpeded access to humanitarian aid," stressing that it is obligated to respect and protect the rights of Palestinians in the occupied territories in accordance with international law.

It also stressed that Israel "does not have the right to exercise sovereignty over any part of the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem."

On Tuesday, the Gaza government said that only 986 aid trucks had entered the Strip since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, out of the 6,600 trucks expected to enter by Monday evening under the agreement.

Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 8, 2023, leaving more than 68,234 Palestinian martyrs and 170,373 injured, most of them children and women, and destroying 90% of the civilian infrastructure.
