West Bank: Two Palestinians injured near Ramallah by Israeli occupation forces amid settler attacks on olive pickers

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a brief statement that "one person was seriously injured and another was slightly injured, by Israeli occupation forces' bullets, and arrived at the Istishari Hospital (in Ramallah) from the Jalazone camp."

According to Voice of Palestine Radio (government), the Israeli occupation army sent reinforcements to the Jalazone camp, adding that an Israeli special force arrested a young man from the camp.

In a related development, eyewitnesses reported that settlers attacked olive pickers in the towns of al-Mughayyir and Turmus Ayya, north of Ramallah, preventing them from completing the harvest, forcibly forcing them to leave their lands, and setting fire to two vehicles.

Witnesses noted that a foreign activist sustained bruises to his hand following settler attacks in Turmus Ayya. A video clip circulated showing a paramedic attempting to treat the activist, who was in pain following the attack.

The Israeli occupation forces set up a checkpoint at the entrance to the town of Turmus Ayya and conducted a vehicle search, according to witnesses.

In Nablus, the Palestinian News Agency, WAFA, reported that a group of settlers attacked olive pickers in the village of Rujeib, east of Nablus.

Assault on an elderly woman

A video circulating on social media on Friday showed an Israeli settler violently assaulting an elderly Palestinian woman while she was picking olives east of Ramallah, causing her to lose consciousness, according to an eyewitness who spoke to Anadolu Agency.

The clip shows a masked settler carrying a stick, attacking the woman and repeatedly hitting her on the head until she fell to the ground. He then assaulted two foreign activists among the olive trees.

Awad Abu Samra, an eyewitness and activist in the popular committees in the town of Turmus Ayya, said the incident took place in the eastern part of the town. He added: “The settlers attacked us while we were picking olives and chased us, but a woman was a little late, so the settler attacked her with a stick and hit her on the head until she fainted. He then continued to attack two other activists in the same spot, causing one of them to break his hand.”

He added that the injured person, Afaf Saleh Abu Alia, in her fifties, was transferred to the Istishari Hospital in Ramallah for treatment, describing her condition as "stable."

UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese also condemned the incident, writing in a post on her X account, "For two years, the world has been watching scenes like this from the West Bank." She asked, "Where are the honorable Israelis; those demonstrating in Tel Aviv? Don't they feel a sense of duty to take action and stop their fellow citizens who are behaving like criminals on the loose?"

Settler attacks in the West Bank have increased significantly with the arrival of the olive harvest season, which begins in the second half of October.

According to data from the Palestinian Commission Against the Wall and Settlements (governmental), settlers carried out 7,154 attacks against Palestinians and their property in the West Bank during the two years of the genocide, "resulting in the martyrdom of 33 citizens and the displacement of 33 Palestinian Bedouin communities." They also established 114 settlement outposts.

Since the beginning of the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip, Israeli attacks in the West Bank have escalated, leaving at least 1,056

Palestinian martyrs and nearly 10,000 wounded, in addition to the arrest of more than 20,000, including 1,600 children.

Since October 8, 2023, Israel, with US support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of 68,116 Palestinians, the injury of 170,200 others, and the destruction of 90% of the Strip's infrastructure.
