X tests new feature that reveals account profile information to prevent misinformation

Social media platform X is reportedly developing a new feature that will display more information regarding user identities to help the public distinguish between genuine accounts and bots or accounts that have the potential to spread misinformation.

As reported by Tech Crunch on Thursday, X Product Head Nikita Bier said that the company will begin experimenting with displaying a number of information on user profiles, such as the account creation date, usage location, number of username changes, and how the account uses X services.

By displaying this information, users are expected to be able to assess an account's credibility. For example, if a profile claims to be based in the United States, but system data indicates a different location, this could be an indication of a hidden agenda.

Likewise, if application X is downloaded through another country's application store while the account claims to be from the United States.

Nikita said that the initial trial will be implemented on several X employee accounts next week to gather feedback before expanding to other users in general.
