Gresini rider Alex Marquez became the winner (P1) of the 2025 Portuguese MotoGP sprint session at the Algarve International Circuit, Saturday, after he won a fierce duel against Red Bull KTM rider Pedro Acosta.
Alex, who started fifth, immediately moved up to third after the race began. He was behind pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi, who led in the early stages, and Acosta, who was trailing in second.
Acosta overtook Bezzecchi on the straight on lap 2. Bezzecchi then dropped to third on the following lap after he was overtaken by Alex in the same manner as Acosta.
Until the fifth lap, Acosta was able to maintain his pace, avoiding Alex's advance in second place. However, on the straight entering the sixth lap, Alex took over first place, and from there, the duel between the Spanish riders became intense.
The two overtook each other for the lead, ultimately leading Alex to victory by 0.120 seconds in a time of 19 minutes, 50.075 seconds. Bezzecchi also finished on the podium alongside Alex and Acosta, securing third place.
Rounding out the top five are Monster Energy Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo and Pertamina Enduro VR46 rider Fabio Di Giannantonio.
