Indonesia secured five additional entries to the round of 16 of the 2025 BWF World Tour Super 500 Australian Open after a series of first-round matches on Wednesday, bringing the total to 11 of the 13 representatives.
In the men's singles sector, Alwi Farhan became one of the athletes who secured a place in the second round after winning a walkover over the host's representative, Jie Ying Chan.
However, two other players, Yohanes Saut Marcellyno and top seed Jonatan Christie, had to be eliminated after losing to their respective opponents.
Meanwhile, the women's doubles and doubles teams put in solid performances. Second-seeded Putri Kusuma Wardani convincingly defeated Shung Shuo Yun 21-12, 21-8.
The men's doubles pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani and the women's doubles pair Lanny Tria Mayasari/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi also made solid progress to the round of 16.
Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti followed in their footsteps with a dominant victory over Australian representatives Sydney Tjonadi/Victoria Tjonadi with a score of 21-10, 21-6.
In the mixed doubles event, two Indonesian representatives both recorded wins, namely Adnan Maulana/Indah Cahya Sari Jamil and second seed Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu.
With this result, Indonesia only lost two representatives from the men's singles sector.
