Indonesian men's singles player Richie Duta Richardo said he would seize the opportunity to win the 2025 Indonesia International Challenge title despite the absence of several top seeds."Last week's match was tougher because there were many senior players. Now, there are several senior players who are not playing, so my chances of winning should be greater," said Richie in an official statement from the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Last week, Richie was eliminated in the semifinals after losing to top seed and champion Prahdiska Bagas Shujiwo with a score of 23-21, 22-24, 15-21.
In the second week, Prahdiska was absent from the Amongrogo Sports Hall in Yogyakarta, as she was preparing to appear in the 2025 India International Super 300 event.
Richie made his first start at the 2025 Indonesia International Challenge by defeating Taiwanese Zhe Ying Wu in two straight games, 21-17, 21-12.
Richie, seeded 16th, admitted that the opening match was still tough because he was familiar with his opponent's playing style, having faced him at the 2024 Asian Junior Championships.
