Dallas Mavericks basketball player Dante Exum is confirmed to be out for the remainder of the 2025-2026 NBA season, after undergoing a second surgery on his right knee. The NBA website, Saturday, stated that the team announced the confirmation following complications arising from a surgical procedure the player underwent last offseason .
The guard previously re-signed a one-year contract with the club this summer. Dallas had hoped the 30-year-old could fill the void left by Kyrie Irving's recovery from a knee injury sustained at the end of last season.
However, Exum's condition hasn't improved. Repeated injuries have limited his contributions in the last two seasons. In the 2023-2024 season, he appeared in only 55 games, and last season, his appearances dropped drastically to 20.
Those two seasons marked his first return to the NBA, following a stint overseas in 2022 and 2023.
Exum was the fifth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft when selected by the Utah Jazz. He spent four more seasons with the Jazz, excluding the 2015-2016 season when he missed the entire season due to injury.
After that, he played for the Cleveland Cavaliers before continuing his career in international competition.
Throughout his NBA career, he averaged 6.2 points per game (ppg) and 2.3 assists per game (apg). The Mavericks have not yet announced their plans for future roster moves to replace Dante Exum.
