Huawei prepares "wheelchair mode" for wearable devices

Huawei prepares "wheelchair mode" for wearable devices  Chinese tech giant Huawei will launch a wheelchair mode for sports and health features on its smart wearables this month, integrating accessibility for wheelchair users.

Zhu Ping, president of Huawei's consumer business sales and marketing services, said the innovation was inspired by Majid Rashed, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee.

"After extensive research, we developed this function to scientifically evaluate activity by recording effort, duration, and calories, thus helping users manage their exercise," Zhu told Xinhua.

Huawei's global wearable shipments have surpassed 200 million units this year, ranking first in the world in terms of first-half shipments and leading in more than 20 markets. Analysts attribute this achievement to Huawei's resilience and local integration, with the brand jumping to 39th place in the Kantar BrandZ 2025 rankings.

"Growth stems from global consumer trust," Zhu emphasized.

The company is highlighting its wearables and ecosystem applications, launching a new watch in Paris and holding events around the world. Huawei is also collaborating with more than 150 research institutions, and has so far opened up more than 70 types of data for health studies.

Looking ahead, Zhu said Huawei will "walk alongside global users" under its brand proposition, "Now is Yours." "Consumer trust is our most valuable asset. We want to connect authentically across cultures," Zhu added.
