Italian journalist loses his job for asking the European Commission a question about Gaza

Nunziati had recently been appointed to Brussels, before losing his post after asking the Commission's spokespeople a question during a press conference on October 13.

The Italian journalist then asked: "You have repeatedly said that Russia should pay compensation for the reconstruction of Ukraine. Do you think that Israel, which destroyed almost the entire Gaza Strip and its civilian infrastructure, should pay compensation for the reconstruction of Gaza?"

UNHCR spokesperson Paula Benio responded to the question by saying: "It is certainly an interesting question, but I will not comment on it at this stage."

A few days after the question was raised, Gaetano Pedullà, an Italian member of the European Parliament from the Left group, announced that Nunziati had lost his job.

Nonziati confirmed he had lost his job, but stated that he could not disclose any further details about the matter.

The European Commission, headed by German politician Ursula von der Leyen, has been criticized for taking a pro-Tel Aviv stance against the genocide committed by Israel against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which left 68,875 dead and 170,679 wounded.
