Jimly gave Megawati a personal book about the amendments to the 1945 Constitution.

Jimly gave Megawati a personal book about the amendments to the 1945 Constitution.  Chairman of the Commission for the Acceleration of Police Reform Jimly Asshiddiqie presented a personally written book entitled Towards the Fifth Amendment to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia to the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Megawati Soekarnoputri, in Jakarta, Friday.

He said that the purpose of giving the book was so that Megawati could use it as reading material and as a thought-provoking resource for the restructuring of the state system through the Fifth Amendment to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia (NRI).

"So, what this means is that after the National Police reform, we will fix other things, including amending the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. We will discuss the material later," Jimly said in the video caption.

Apart from giving away a book that had just been published for the first time by the printing press, the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court admitted that he visited Megawati at her residence to exchange ideas regarding national problems.

Jimly conducted the visit accompanied by one of the members of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission, namely Mahfud MD.

After handing over the book, Jimly joked with Megawati about the positions of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), the People's Representative Council (DPR), and the Regional Representative Council (DPD).

"There are many things (that need to be fixed)," he said.

Responding to the joke, Megawati admitted that she had asked for the MPR's status to be raised again at the 2016 National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas).

The MPR was once the highest state institution, namely before the amendment to the 1945 Constitution for the 1999-2002 period.

After the amendment, the MPR is no longer the highest state institution but has become a state institution that is equal to other institutions because the sovereignty of the people is now implemented according to the constitution, not entirely by the MPR.

"Well, but I only said it once, to raise the MPR, but who protested , the bearded man . They said it was Pandora's box, what Pandora's box ?" Megawati said on that occasion.

Previously, the Chairman of the MPR RI, Ahmad Muzani, ensured that the MPR RI would not close itself off to views and input from the public, including not locking up the possibility of amendments to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia.

He also realized that there were views from some people who wanted an amendment to the country's constitution, and there were also those who had the opposite opinion.
