Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has defended manager Arne Slott against criticism he has faced recently this season.

In comments to TNT Sports, Gerrard believes that sacking Slot is highly unlikely and that the Dutch coach should continue with Liverpool, where he succeeded Klopp in the best possible way.

Gerrard said: "The work Slot has done since taking over from Jurgen Klopp has been flawless. He deserves a lot of credit for that, and that's why the team's performance has been disappointing in the last few weeks."

Gerrard added, "People calling for his dismissal are absolutely nonsense, but if you make all these changes in a short period of time, a transition period will be needed."

He explained: "Then if you add some injuries as well, it will be difficult, but to be fair to the coach, he tried to explain these situations in the media, and then people accused him of making excuses."

He concluded: "Liverpool will beat Real Madrid at Anfield."

Liverpool won 2-0 against Aston Villa yesterday, Saturday, at Anfield Stadium, as part of the tenth week of the Premier League.

Liverpool are preparing for a highly anticipated match next Tuesday against Real Madrid in the fourth round of the Champions League group stage.
