Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid said that the presence of Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic System Implementation in Child Protection (PP TUNAS) is proof of the government's seriousness in protecting children from crimes in the digital space.
"For these companies, we are a market, so of course there will be a reaction when their market share is cut. But thank God, thanks to the President's steadfast leadership, he conveyed that this is how it must be. We must protect our children," said Meutya in a statement received in Medan on Sunday.
Meutya revealed that Indonesia is the second country in the world to implement regulations delaying children's access to digital platforms after Australia.
Meutya said the government is currently developing a system to enforce strict sanctions against platforms that violate the rules.
"We still have time to improve the system and then we will actually implement sanctions. These sanctions will be imposed on the platform, not on the mother or the child," he stressed.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital, he said, also continues to collaborate with the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (Kemen PPPA) to provide education to parents and children on how to protect themselves and their families in the digital space.
