China has built more than 7,000 advanced smart factories and is now the world's largest smart manufacturing application base, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced on Thursday (27/11).China's Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology Xin Guobin revealed the data in his speech at the 2025 World Intelligent Manufacturing Conference held from Thursday to Saturday (29/11) in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province, China.
Xin said that through specific sector-specific measures and a tiered development approach, China has also established more than 500 high-level smart factories.
In addition, 15 companies have been included in the coaching list for pioneer-level smart factories.
Xin said China has developed a global supply capacity for systematic solutions. The total scale of China's intelligent manufacturing equipment, industrial software, and systematic solutions industry has exceeded 4.5 trillion yuan, or approximately US$635.5 billion (US$1 = Rp16,644).
Suppliers of systematic smart manufacturing solutions in sectors such as complete vehicles, power batteries and petrochemicals are now accelerating their global expansion, with service networks reaching key manufacturing regions worldwide.
In 2024, China implemented a progressive development campaign for smart factories in the country, following a circular jointly issued by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and five other government authorities.
The government classifies smart factories into four levels based on technological maturity and depth of integration: basic, advanced, superior, and pioneer.
