OpenAI denies ChatGPT limits legal and health advice

Artificial intelligence (AI) company OpenAI has denied that its ChatGPT chatbot service limits the provision of legal and health advice.

OpenAI's Head of Health AI, Karan Singhal, said that claims circulating that there was an update to ChatGPT's usage policy that prevents the chatbot from providing legal and medical advice are false.

As reported by The Verge on Tuesday, the claim stemmed from a now-deleted post on the Kalshi betting platform. The post read, "NEW: ChatGPT will no longer provide health or legal advice."

Refuting this, Singhal said, "ChatGPT is never a substitute for professional advice, but it will continue to be a great resource to help people understand legal and health information."

According to Singhal, the inclusion of policies around legal and medical advice “is not a new change in our provisions.”
