The government, through the Ministry of Communication and Digital, is providing affordable internet access without fiber optics to realize inclusive and affordable digital connectivity.
"This is not just a formality, but a strong declaration of shared vision, commitment, and action toward a digitally empowered Indonesia," said Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria in an official statement confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday.
In the signing of a commercial contract between SURGE, OREX SAI Japan, and local distributors, in Jakarta on Wednesday (11/12), Nezar emphasized that the collaboration in providing fast internet services is a real breakthrough to accelerate digital access throughout Indonesia.
The technology adopted in this project is based on Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) 5G at 1.4 GHz frequency.
This technology enables high-speed internet services without having to wait for the construction of a fiber optic network, which has been a major obstacle in many areas.
"This isn't just about connecting people. It's about providing affordable high-speed access. This technology is designed to bypass the traditional, expensive, and time-consuming process of installing fiber optics for everyone," Nezar said.
The government considers this step to be in line with the national strategy to narrow the digital divide and strengthen the foundations of Indonesia's digital economy.
