After nearly three decades of absence from international rally championships, the Indonesia Rally Team (IRT) officially marked its comeback on the world stage by participating in the 2025 Shannons Adelaide Rally in South Australia on November 21-23.
The return of the national rally team marks the revival of Indonesian rallying, which was once successful from 1992 to 1997, when the Red and White flag often flew on international tracks such as Rally Australia and Rally New Zealand.
"We don't just want to compete, but also to revive the spirit of Indonesian rallying. This is about building a stronger, more professional, and more sustainable ecosystem," said rally driver Rifat Sungkar, who served as the IRT program leader in Jakarta on Thursday.
IRT will field three pairs of racers and co-drivers in the highest class, Open Class (Rally2 Class), namely Rifat Sungkar/M. Redwan with Mitsubishi Xpander AP4, Ryan Nirwan/Garindra or Adi Indiarto with Toyota Yaris AP4, and Moreno Dzaky Nasution/Reeve Akbar with Mazda AP4.
This combination is a blend of experience, professionalism, and the spirit of regeneration of young racers who will bring Indonesia's name to compete at the world level.
