Portugal national team coach Roberto Martinez said his squad is keeping their hopes alive of winning the 2026 World Cup trophy after securing their place in the quadrennial tournament.
"We can continue our dream of winning the World Cup. Now we are better prepared for the World Cup," Martinez said, as quoted on the official website of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) on Monday.
Portugal secured a place in the 2026 World Cup after defeating Armenia 9-1 in the final match of Group F of the 2026 World Cup European Qualifiers at the Dragao Stadium, Porto, Sunday (16/11) evening WIB.
Martinez said he was pleased with his team's performance in the match after losing 0-2 to Ireland in the previous match.
The Spanish tactician also said that the victory over Armenia and their qualification for the 2026 World Cup was a beautiful tribute to their football legend, Eusebio da Silva Ferreira.
