Ankara: Fidan discusses the second phase of the Gaza agreement and the humanitarian situation with a Hamas delegation.
According to sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Fidan met with a Hamas delegation in the capital, Ankara, where they exchanged views on political and field developments, particularly regarding the second phase of the peace plan in the Gaza Strip.
During the meeting, Fidan stressed that Türkiye continues to defend the rights of Palestinians in the strongest possible way on all international platforms, emphasizing the continuation of Turkish efforts aimed at supporting the Palestinian people.
He also briefed the delegation on Turkey’s ongoing efforts to meet housing needs and provide humanitarian aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip.
For its part, the Hamas delegation stated that the movement had fulfilled the ceasefire conditions, while Israel continues to target the Gaza Strip, considering that this approach aims to obstruct the transition to the second phase of the peace plan.
The delegation stated that 60% of the trucks allowed into Gaza carry commercial goods, while the quantities of humanitarian aid do not meet the actual needs of the population.
The Hamas delegation explained that shortages still exist, particularly in basic needs, including medicines, shelter and fuel, noting the worsening humanitarian situation in the sector.
The meeting also addressed developments related to the reconciliation process between the Palestinian factions, as well as the situation in the West Bank, and both sides stressed that Israeli practices in the West Bank are unacceptable.
It is worth noting that on September 29, US President Donald Trump announced a 20-point plan for peace and an end to the war in Gaza, including: the release of Israeli prisoners, a ceasefire, the disarmament of Hamas, Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the formation of a technocratic government, and the deployment of an international stabilization force.
On October 10, the first phase of the ceasefire agreement came into effect, while Israel violated some of its terms and delayed moving to the second phase, citing the continued captivity of one of its soldiers in Gaza, even though Palestinian factions continue to search for him amidst the massive destruction left by the Israeli genocide.
The agreement was supposed to end a genocide perpetrated by Tel Aviv over two years starting on October 7, 2023, which resulted in about 71,000 martyrs and more than 171,000 wounded Palestinians, most of them children and women, but Israel continues to this day its violations and its suffocating siege on the sector.
