Axios: The Trump administration plans to appoint a US general to lead the international stabilization force in Gaza.

This comes within the framework of the mandate given by the UN Security Council in mid-November to establish a transitional force operating under the supervision of the "Peace Council".

According to Axios, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz informed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials during his visit to Israel this week that Washington would assume command of the international force and appoint a general to head it. There was no immediate comment from the White House or the Pentagon.

On November 17, the Security Council adopted a resolution authorizing the “Peace Council” and cooperating countries to establish a temporary international stabilization force in Gaza, with the aim of overseeing reconstruction and ensuring security, in line with the 20-point “Trump peace plan” to end the war in the sector.

Trump told reporters on Wednesday that the announcement of the leaders of the countries who will join the Peace Council will be made early next year, noting that the council will set the general framework for the reconstruction of Gaza, fund it, and oversee the transition process.

According to a plan put forward by Trump, the first phase of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement between Israel and Palestinian factions began on October 10.

The second phase of the ceasefire agreement includes provisions for the administration of Gaza through a temporary transitional government, composed of a non-political Palestinian technocratic committee, and the development of an economic plan by President Trump for the reconstruction of Gaza.

The Israeli war of extermination in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023 and lasted for two years, left more than 70,000 martyrs and more than 171,000 wounded, most of them children and women.

The ceasefire agreement was supposed to end the war of extermination, but Israel continues to violate the agreement, resulting in the killing and wounding of hundreds of Palestinians.
