House member: 2026 UMP must maintain purchasing power and business sustainability

House member: 2026 UMP must maintain purchasing power and business sustainability  Member of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Heru Tjahjono emphasized that the determination of the 2026 Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) must be based on compliance with Government Regulation Number 49 of 2025 concerning Wages and a spirit of togetherness between the government, workers, and the business world, so as to maintain purchasing power and business sustainability.

"The UMP should not be understood merely as an administrative figure, but rather must realistically reflect regional economic conditions to have a positive impact on the community and businesses," Heru said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

The Regent of Tulungagung for the 2003-2008 and 2008-2013 periods said that the determination of the UMP has now entered a crucial stage throughout Indonesia, where most provincial governments have announced the new minimum wage amounts.

This policy is considered strategic in protecting workers' welfare, while maintaining business continuity amidst global economic challenges.

According to the latest data, 36 of Indonesia's 38 provinces have set the 2026 minimum wage, while two provinces, Aceh and Papua Highlands, have not yet announced their official figures by the deadline of December 24, 2025.
