Two goals from veteran England striker Jamie Vardy, coupled with a brilliant performance from Indonesian national team goalkeeper Emil Audero, were the keys to I Grigio Rossi's success in bringing home three points from their opponents' home.
This result moves Cremonese up to 11th in the Serie A standings with 17 points from 13 matches. Meanwhile, Bologna is in sixth place and failed to overtake Como, according to the official Serie A website.
Cremonese, the visiting team, went on the offensive right from the kick-off . The opening goal came in the 31st minute through Martin Payero, who broke through the home side's net, making it 1-0.
Cremonese increased their lead to 2-0 just four minutes later. Emil Audero's long pass failed to be handled by the Bologna defense.
Federico Bonazzoli controlled the loose ball, who then played a perfect pass to Jamie Vardy. He unleashed a powerful shot that beat Bologna goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia.
Bologna reduced the deficit in first-half injury time through Riccardo Orsolini's penalty.
Although Audero read the direction of his shot, the ball still found the back of the Cremonese net due to his overpowering shot. The score remained 2-1 at halftime.
Entering the second half, Vardy got on the scoresheet again in the 50th minute. Receiving a pass in the penalty box, the 38-year-old striker's close-range shot again ripped through Bologna's net, making it 3-1.
Trailing by two goals, Bologna increased their attacking intensity. However, the hosts' numerous attempts were thwarted by a superb Emil Audero.
Thanks to Audero's heroic performance and Vardy's sharpness, Cremonese managed to maintain their lead until the final whistle.
