Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso said that his team's striker Kylian Mbappe's success in equaling the number of goals scored by Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo in one year was the result of his ambition and passion for football.
"Having that, he will always play very well for the team and his teammates on the pitch," said Alonso, as quoted on Real Madrid's website.
Mbappe's goal against Sevilla in the 2025/2026 La Liga match at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on made him equal Ronaldo's 59 goals in one year, which is a record at Real Madrid for the total number of goals scored by a player in a year.
Mbappé scored 59 goals in 58 matches. Meanwhile, Ronaldo, who secured the record in 2013, scored in 50 matches.
Of those goals, 11 were two goals per match ( brace ), four were hat tricks and one was four goals in one match.
