Facebook has officially shut down its Facebook Messenger desktop app for Mac and Windows devices, directing users to access the instant messaging service via the Facebook website.
As reported by Tech Crunch on Tuesday, the desktop version of the Messenger app was first launched at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the app was deemed less able to compete with other, more business-oriented video conferencing platforms, such as Zoom.
The desktop version of Messenger has a limit on the number of video call participants and does not offer screen sharing or easy-to-share meeting links.
