Newcastle even immediately took a two-goal lead within the first seven minutes of the match.
Joelinton scored the opening goal after just two minutes. Shortly after, Yoane Wissa extended the Magpies' lead with a goal after converting a rebound from Harvey Barnes' shot. The score was 2-0.
Burnley fought back and reduced the deficit in the 23rd minute. Josh Laurent scored a beautiful volley that beat the Newcastle goalkeeper, making it 2-1 at halftime.
Burnley dominated the second half, continuing to pressure the visitors' defense. Laurent nearly equalized, but his shot hit the post.
As Burnley continued to chase a goal, Newcastle secured victory in injury time. Bruno Guimaraes capitalized on a costly error by goalkeeper Martin Dubravka in the third minute of added time to score the third goal and seal a 3-1 victory for Newcastle.
