Palestine praises UN vote to end occupation and condemns targeting civilians with "deadly weapons".

The official Palestinian news agency WAFA quoted Palestinian presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh as saying that the UN resolution is a "victory for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people" and represents an "international consensus" on the need to establish a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Abu Rudeineh pointed out that the decision constitutes a "clear message" to the American administration and to Israel, the meaning of which is that "there is no security, stability and prosperity in the region without the establishment of a Palestinian state in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy." He added that the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem are "one geographical and political unit," stressing that this principle is "the basis for any real peace."

He continued: "The Palestinian leadership highly values the unwavering international consensus in support of the rights, freedom, and independence of the Palestinian people and the establishment of their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital."

On Tuesday, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution, drafted by Djibouti, Jordan, Mauritania, Qatar, Senegal and Palestine, affirming the United Nations’ responsibility towards Palestine, calling for an end to the Israeli occupation that began in 1967 and supporting a two-state solution.

151 countries voted in favor of the draft resolution, while 11 countries, led by Israel and the United States, opposed it, and 11 countries abstained from voting.

The resolution also calls for an end to settler attacks on Palestinian lands, Israel’s compliance with international law, the resumption of negotiations, non-recognition of any border changes, and increased humanitarian aid to Palestinians.

The resolution also expresses its satisfaction with the ceasefire that came into effect in Gaza on October 10, and stresses its rejection of any attempts to change the demographic composition or geographic status of the sector, affirming that it is an integral part of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967.

The resolution calls on Israel to withdraw from all the territories it has occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, and to realize the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state.

Although the resolutions of the General Assembly are not legally binding, they are an important indicator of the direction of the international community.

“Deadly weapons”

In a related context, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Wednesday that the Israeli occupation army deliberately targets civilians in the Gaza Strip with "lethal weapons," resulting in approximately 42,000 Palestinians suffering serious disabilities requiring long-term rehabilitation.

This came in a statement from the ministry on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which falls on December 3rd of each year.

The ministry referred in the statement to a report issued by the World Health Organization in September 2025, which confirmed that “about 42,000 people in Gaza suffer from serious injuries, requiring long-term rehabilitation programs.”

She explained that the injuries resulting from the Israeli targeting included amputations, spinal cord and brain injuries, and permanent loss of motor and sensory functions, noting that the bombing is carried out using explosive weapons in addition to the direct sniping of civilians.

She added that restrictions on the entry of medicines, medical equipment and fuel into the Gaza Strip have exacerbated the health condition of the wounded and disabled, and have turned many treatable injuries into permanent disabilities.

The statement noted that tens of thousands of cases include amputations of upper and lower limbs, along with thousands of burn injuries and permanent deformities, and pointed out that restricting the movement of Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem has deprived large groups of people with disabilities of access to health, education and social services.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry called on the international community to "provide protection for civilians, open an independent international investigation into the injuries that led to disabilities, hold those responsible for the use of unlawful lethal force accountable, and compel Israel to respect international law and UN resolutions, including the protection of children, women, and people with disabilities."

The ministry stressed that the Israeli violations represent a direct breach of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, noting that diplomatic efforts are underway to address this escalating humanitarian crisis.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced in a statement that 6,000 cases of limb amputations had been recorded during the two years of the Israeli war of extermination on the Strip, and indicated that the injured needed "urgent and long-term" rehabilitation programs.

On October 10, 2025, a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and a prisoner exchange between Hamas and Israel went into effect, according to the plan of US President Donald Trump.

The agreement ended the war of extermination waged by Israel with American support in Gaza since October 7, 2023, which resulted in the martyrdom of more than 70,000 Palestinian martyrs, and about 171,000 wounded, most of them children and women, and caused destruction that affected 90% of the civilian infrastructure.
